Tombstone: Read by Sue Haschemeyer " Sacred to the memory of Catherine Dunnuch who departed
this life Jan 16th 1836 aged 84 years" (The 3 in 1836 looks much like a five due to weathering, but her will
was 1836 and upon closer examination I believe the 3 to be correct.) Larger photo of Tombstone The tombstone is about 11 rows back from the church and faces away from the church unlike the other stones. |

RE: Chart listing the early Maryland Dunnuck family by Mr. Joseph (Frances) Dunnuck. | If you have this information, please note
and correct: Mrs. Joseph (Frances) Dunnuck of Greenwood, Indiana, in a chart she created May 1971, lists Catherine as 2nd wife of John (MD1747-1819) and gives her dates as 1772-1856. This cannot be correct in light of Catherine's will of 1836 which lists the same children as in John's will of 1819. The tombstone for Catherine is hard to read and looks like 1856, but in light of Catherine's will, it has to be a "3" rather than a "5". Also as Mr. Christou points out, John and Catherine were wed in 1771. Catherine's correct dates are 1752-1836. I am including this because Mrs. Joseph (Frances) Dunnuck's chart is so widely shared. That chart contains a side note indicating John had two wifes most likely refers to John born 1773. There is proof that John 1773 was wed more than once. |

By grandson N. "Gene" DUNNUCK: The Dunnuck grocery store was on Miami Street in South Bend. His Grandfather, his Dad, Uncle Harley and cousin Richard N all worked there. "...they were all very close...." "I do remember the time, Thanksgiving Day, we were all at the table and the FBI came in and abruptly took Grandfather and my Dad from the table to be questioned about ration stamp fraud. Someone had reported them...probably because they ran out of limited supplies of butter, sugar, meat, at the store and could not serve the customer. Nothing ever came of it, but it did destroy the day for us all. Ah, the heavy foot of even the US Government." |
