DESCENDANCY CHART FOR
SARA (DUNNUCK) KEYS
wife of James H. KEYS

DAUGHTER OF JOSHUA (KS)

Updated Feb. 2002

Original copyright Feb.1999 - 2002 by Mrs. Sue Haschemeyer

Susan KEYS sent the 50 page book, the KEYS FAMILY RECORD, 1770-1921, compiled by Louesa J. Keys and published July 1921 in Normal, IL The chart below is created from pages 5, 21, 42-44 of this book and the more recent records of Susan Keys.

Another fine source is a lengthy article published in the Centennial Edition, of the "Lincoln Evening Courier," August 26, 1953, section 4, page
(need to get page #)

Francis Keys
father of James

"Francis Keys, the son of Andrew and Elizabeth Johnston Keys, was born in County Fermanagh, Ireland, December 25, 1819. Francis emigrated to this country at the age of 14, living in Ohio ten years before moving to Griggsville in Pike County, IL." The parent, (not named in the article), lived and died in Ireland. (another source has his birth as December 25, 1920) The Courier article

"He married Jane L. Jago in 1845 and were the parents of five children: James, Elizabeth, Mary, John and Francis. Jane passed away in 1855." (b. 22 Jan.1927 Ireland - Louesa Keys source has b. 26 Jan. 1829 )(Jane's Middle name Louesa)(d. 20 Sept 1855) The Courier article

"In 1857 he married Margaret Rutledge, daughter of Charles and Jane Evans Rutledge, early settlers of Logan County. To them were born twelve children, namely: Charles, Sarah, Margaret, Susan, Samuel Emma, Matilda, Louella, Lottie, Thomas, Georgiana and Eva." (Margaret b. April 8, 1836 - d Feb. 13, 1923)
The Courier article

"Francis was a land owner, farmer and stock-raiser in Pike County before moving to Logan County in 1879 where he owned land in Aetna Twp.

They were members of the Harmony Methodist Episcopal Church located about two miles SW of the Keys home in Aetna township."

Francis died in 1887, and Margaret in Lincoln on Feb. 13, 1923 at the age of 86.

The Courier article then has a paragraph on each of the Keys children. (37 inches worth of information and a photo of Francis and another of Margaret )
Francis arrived in America in about 1834 "at the age of 14". At such a young age I would surmise that he came when his older sister Jane (b. 1801, wife of. James Robinson) emigrated, with her husband and children, "between 1833-1835." Jane's family settled somewhere around Tuscarawas Co. Ohio. Their father Andrew Keys died in 1829 and mother, Elizabeth Johnston, the following year. Louesa's book indicates that Andrew & Elizabeth had eight children, all of whom emigrated to America.

On-line information on Jane's family, has birth dates for parents; Andrew 1772 and Jane 1770. see RootsWeb.com -"World Connect" "Ancestors of Anne McDonald" by Anne Leggett McDonald. Anne's records show the Keys family as being been from Glenarn, Magherculmoney, Fermanagh, Ireland,

The Dunnuck Family:
From Shirley Schmidt I learned of Thomas' wife, the names and birth dates of his children and the names of their spouses - the Ohio years. If you have any information on Thomas' family I'm sure Shirley would love to hear from you snschuld@swbell.net...me too - snhasch@aol.com

Shirley Nice Schuldt gave me a wonderful start on Thomas' family by directing me to the county where my family settled 85 years after the DUNNUCKs which made researching Thomas' line very easy. Much to my surprise I found not only Thomas' children but descendants of Samuel's (b.1787) family as well.

Some data on the Kansas family came from the marriage and cemetery indexes found at the website: www.ukans.edu/~hisite/franklin/indexes.
